Introduction

The Conservationist's Guide to Maine Government is the information source for individuals and groups who want to get involved in the protection of Maine's natural resources. Often this desire leads citizens to the Legislature to advocate for or against new bills.

The Guide describes the legislative process of moving an issue from a bill to a law. It also focuses on who does what once a bill is passed. The Guide explains the administrative side of Maine's environmental public policy-making process and highlights individually the agencies, commissions and boards responsible for implementing and enforcing those environmental laws.

The role for citizens in the administrative process is not always clear, and especially not well publicized. Armed with resource information, knowledge, and organizing skills, concerned citizens can advocate effectively for our natural resources.
